Musakhan
Musakhan is a traditional dish composed of delicious roasted chicken that is baked with olive oil, onions, sumac, allspice, saffron, and topped with fried pine nuts. This healthy combination is served over taboon or flat bread. With its minimal, but healthy and filling ingredients, Musakhan, is an excellent dish to serve.
Ingredients
The ingredients below will accommodate 2 servings
Ingredients:
Chicken
Olive Oil
Salt
Sumac
Cardamom
Bay Leaves
Cinnamon Sticks
2 -3 Large Onions
Ground black pepper
Taboon or Large Flat Bread
Almonds
Preparation
Step 1
Place chicken in a pot and add 3 cups of water. Then add salt, cardamoms, bay leaves, and cinnamon sticks. Let it cook for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Dice onions and add to another pot. Put half cup of olive oil, salt, and pepper and cook half way. Take off the stove.
Step 3
Add Sumac to the onions and dip the bread in the oil to make it moist. Add a layer of the onions onto the bread. Dip the chicken in the onion mixture as well and then place on top of the layer of onions. Add more sumac on top. Broil for 10-15 minutes.
Step 4
Add roasted almonds on top. Serve by slicing bread into quarter pieces. Enjoy!
